Owerri – The Imo House of Assembly on Thursday adopted a motion to hold plenary in Igbo language on the last Thursday of the month.
The legislators, observers and Assembly workers are to be dressed in Igbo attire.
The motion was moved by Mr Ikechukwu Amuka ( APC-Ideato South), citing Order 11 of the House rule.
Amuka stated that Igbo language was in danger of becoming extinct, adding that Order 11 of the House rules, provided that the business of the Assembly shall be conducted in English or Igbo if the House approves.
The lawmakers held its first session in Igbo language after the motion was unanimously adopted.
The Majority Leader, Mr Lugard Osuji moved the motion to commence the session in Igbo language and was seconded by the Minority Leader, Mr Ken Agbim.(NAN)
