IMO (Sundiata Post) – Barely few hours after gunmen enforcing sit-at-home killed four policemen and and a POS operator at Mechanic Village, Irete in Imo State, another sporadic shooting has sent residence of Nkwo-Orji in Owerri North council area of the state scampering for safety.
A witness from the area said gunmen in black attires invaded the place in large numbers ,shooting sporadically and setting vehicles mostly belonging to government ablaze.
It could not be actually ascertained if a life was lost during the incident, but our source, said the whole area literarily turned to a ghost town before security agents arrived the scene.
The incident which has also caused gridlock in adjoining roads has also forced the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSDC) close to the area to barricade portion of the road.
“It was a terrible situation, we just saw some men in black shooting and asking people to go inside, we don’t know if they were enforcing sit-at-home, but everybody is currently running from the area.
“Although we don’t know if anybody died from that heavy shooting, but all we know is that there were smoke everywhere, some people said they were burning government vehicles and a truck.”
