Owerri – Imo Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Ego Uduka says the state government will collaborate with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) in harnessing the natural resources of the state.
Oduka, who made this known when she received officials of the council in Owerri on Wednesday, said the collaboration would enable the RMRDC to make more meaningful impact in the state.
She urged the council to create a road map for the ministry to integrate it into its own.
The commissioner added that the ministry was poised to support the council in its proposed activities for the betterment of the state and proper harnessing of its resources.
Earlier, the state Coordinator of the RMRDC, Mr Samuel Onyekwere, said that the council was eager to explore and develop the untapped agro and mineral resources in Imo.
Onyekwere expressed regrets that the states’ resources have not been properly harnessed despite proposals to the state government by the council.
He also expressed the willingness of the council to work in synergy with the ministry and other relevant ministries to ensure the resources of the state were put to good use.
“The state is blessed with many natural endowments both agro and mineral resources which are yet to be properly harnessed.
“We have made proposals to the state government on ways to tap into these resources and put them to the best use.
“We will be happy to come up with ways to collaborate with the ministry to maximise our proposed contributions to the state,” Onyekwere said.
