President Muhammadu Buhari was shocked to his marrows at how the masses complied totally to the the sit – at – home directive given by IPOB on his presidential visit to Imo State on September 9, 2021.
In all the centres where Buhari was goaded to perform the ignoble act of criminally commissioning projects not done up to 15 per cent, the president looked around but never saw the villagers, the masses or even the middle class. All what came out to welcome him were few APC party leaders, government house bigwigs and a rented crowd of Hausa community at Douglas Road. This made the president cold, weak and utterly embarrassed.
Certainly, what disgusted the president most, as his mien betrayed, was how all the major roads he passed by, Airport Road, Owerri -Aba Road, Wetheral Road, Orlu Road, were deserted and turned into ghost towns as Imolites shunned Buhari’s visit to stay at home in obedience to IPOB’s directives. Buhari would have compared the mammoth and enthusiastic crowd of party supporters and well wishers that used to welcome him to Imo the handful of party leaders that were around today.
Probably, even the speech writer of Governor Hope Uzodimma was so amazed by Imolites compliance of the sit – at – home directive that he forgot to knit the scripts of the address well. Uzofimma struggled with the scripts and that made him to be incoherent as the delivery was pathetically poor.
No doubt, Buhari must have looked Uzodimma to the face and expressed his disappointment on the shoddy preparation and cold reception given to him as both men went into closed door meeting alongside other South East APC leaders.
