The passing of seasoned actor and comedian, John Okafor, widely known as Mr Ibu, on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62, has left the entertainment industry and fans mourning the loss of a comedic icon.
Born on October 17, 1961, in Enugu State, John Ikechukwu Okafor made a significant impact on Nollywood, gaining fame in 2004 with the release of the timeless comedy, “Mr Ibu.”
Collaborating with actor Osita Iheme, Mr Ibu’s distinctive comedic style resonated with audiences in Nigeria and beyond, earning him a place among the country’s most cherished entertainers.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mr Ibu featured in over 200 Nollywood films, including classics like “Mr. Ibu,” “Mr. Ibu and His Son,” and “Mr. Ibu in London,” bringing laughter and joy to many.
Beyond acting, Mr Ibu showcased his musical talents with the release of two singles in October 2020, demonstrating his versatility and creativity.
While being an outspoken advocate for various causes, Mr Ibu faced health challenges in his later years. Reports of his illness emerged in October 2023, leading to a call for financial assistance. Sadly, in November 2023, it was revealed that he had undergone leg amputation due to arterial infection.
Reacting to Mr Ibu’s demise, Verydarkman expressed concern about the actor’s health, suggesting he had been struggling to stay alive. He emphasized caution against polygamy, warning about its potential destructive impact on families, and urged successful men to be discerning in their choice of partners.
