Abuja – The leadership of the All Progressives Congress in a crucial meeting with APC legislators over the leadership of the National Assembly has voted Femi Gbajabiamila for Speaker.
The House of Representatives, speakership race is between Femi Gbajabiamila from Lagos state, South-west, Nigeria and Yakubu Dogara from the North East.
But voting conducted among members-elect present at the meeting and supervised by the APC leadership showed that Gbajabiamila got 154 votes while Dogara got 4.
However, Dogara’s camp has since rejected the outcome of the mock election.
As the time of this report, meeting between the party leadership and the Senators-elect is in progress. The meeting is expected to also elect its own Senate President candidate.
There have been tension among APC legislators in the past two weeks regarding the leadership of the National Assembly. The Senate presidency is a straight tussle between Senator Bukola Saraki, from Kwara State and Ahmed Lawal, Borno State.
The APC leadership is taking this step to avert crisis among its members in the National Assembly. (African Examiner)
