In Ekiti, a septuagenarian community leader, Chief John Olalekan, called on leaders to do more in promoting the unity of the country.
Olalekan said in Ikole, Ekiti, that Nigeria could not build a prosperous modern nation without positive contributions of all and sundry.
“Our political leaders, irrespective of political affiliation, should contribute their quota towards the unity of the country.
“They should support the Federal Government in its efforts of nation building national unity.
“Nigerians should desist from making utterances that can cause disharmony and disaffection but strive to work for the socio-economic development of the country.
“They should also cooperate with the government in its effort to find a lasting solution to the problem of insecurity in some parts of the country.” he said.
He urged the leaders to emulate past leaders, who had fought for the nation’s independence, saying that the dreams of the nationalists would not have been realised if they were selfish.
Olalekan, however, cautioned politicians against sectional interest or ethnic politicking and urged them to be nationalistic in the interest of the country. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
