Ikeja – A 33-year-old Indian, Dhananjay Kumar, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of lead concentrate battery plates worth N150 million.
Kumar, whose address was not given in court, is facing charges bordering on conspiracy and stealing, but he pleaded not guilty.
According to the Prosecutor, DSP Peter Nwangwu, the defendant committed the offences with others still at large between September 2018 and December 2018 at Everest Company Ltd., Ladipo, Oshodi, Lagos.
Nwangwu alleged that the defendant, a Purchasing Manager of the company, stole N150 million worth of the material belonging to the company.
“The defendant stole lead concentrate battery plates, which he was asked to export from the company, Everest Metal Nig. Ltd. to India.
“He adulterated the lead concentrated battery plates that he was to convey to India with sand,” he added.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 160 (1) (a), (7); 287 (5), (b), (f) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate Yewande Aje-Afunwa granted the defendant bail in the sum of N12 million with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until May 23 for mention. (NAN)
