ILORIN – An Ilorin based industrialist, Alhaji Jani Ibrahim, has joined the governorship race on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State.
Ibrahim, who made his declaration on Sunday in Ilorin, rolled out a four-point agenda which he promised to pursue if given the chance to govern the state.
The aspirant, in his address to the party faithful, promised to embark on economic emancipation of the people of the state.
According to him, he will focus on job creation, revolution of the agriculture and natural resources sectors as well as infrastructure development.
“I stand before you today, excited about the great hopes and possibilities that the future holds for our state if we make the right choice.
“Wherever you hail from; north, central or south, Christian or Muslim, high or low in society; we are all united by a common goal of prosperity for all Kwarans,’’ he said.
He said that a blueprint, identifying core strategic sectors, of the state economy had been prepared and would be implemented if elected governor.
Ibrahim, an engineer and chairman of LUBCON, an indigenous petrochemical manufacturing outfit with presence in five countries, appealed to prospective delegates to vote for him during the primaries.
“The task of taking the state from ‘good’ to ‘great’ is achievable. I look at the hoard of unemployed youths; I can see potentials wasting away.
“I look at poor rural dwellers surrounded by uncultivated land as far as the eyes can see, and I see untapped potentials for turning their lives and economy around,’’ Ibrahim said.
“If given the opportunity to serve, I promise to lead a government that will serve as an agent of change, an agent of stability and sustainable economic prosperity,’’ he pledged.
Ibrahim also promised to uphold the universal principles of good governance, transparency, accountability, efficiency, the rule of law and social equity with zero tolerance for corruption.
“Today we are beginning a journey together to usher in a new birth of freedom in this state,’’ he added.
The event, which drew a large crowd of PDP supporters from across the state, was preceded by a rally which took the aspirant across many areas of the state capital.
It was witnessed by leaders of the party in the state including former Minister of State for Health, Dr Amina Ndalolo.
Others include Chief Rex Olawoye, former Deputy Governor, Chief Joel Ogundeji and Mr Kunle Sulyman. (NAN)
