Ego is self-defeating. I don’t blame INEC for telling Zamfara APC leaders that the party is not eligible to field candidates for the 2019 elections because they failed to meet the October 7, 2018 deadline for the conduct of primaries. The Zamfara State APC chapter has been bogged down in an internal crisis and battle of supremacy, pitting incumbent governor Yari against Senator Kabiru Marafa who is determined to replace Yari’s anointed successor as governorship candidate.
Despite the fact that time was not on their side, the factional leaders allowed the crisis to degenerate to the point of intractability, thereby making the conduct of primaries impossible. While they were busy flexing muscles, with every side insisting on having their way, it never occurred to them that the October 7 deadline for the conduct of primaries was unmercifully close. Now they are all losers. That is the consequence of arrogance and stubborn refusal to see reason.
