ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the dates for governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states.
According to a statement signed by Dr. Chris Iyimoga, chairman, information and voter education committee of INEC, the governorship election in Kogi State will hold on Saturday November 21, 2015 while that of Bayelsa will hold on Saturday, December 5, 2015.
The statement said further notices would be issued on or before August 23 and September 5 respectively in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2010, as amended.
The commission directed that political parties should commence on July 24 and end on November 19 in Kogi and September 6 and end on December 3 in Bayelsa.
It reminded politicians that campaigns outside these dates are unlawful, adding that violators would be prosecuted.
In addition, it said conduct of party primaries to nominate candidates for. the elections should be held between August 25 and September 15 for Kogi and between September 7 and 30 for Bayelsa.
