KANO – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kano State has given eligible voters the assurance of getting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC).
Alhaji Garba Mohammed, the INEC Assistant Director of Public Affairs, gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Saturday.
NAN reports that the assurance is coming on the heels of complaints from many eligible voters who have yet to receive their PVCs.
He urged all those who had not received their PVCs to exercise patience as the commission was doing its best to address the challenges being encountered at some of the polling units.
“People should exercise patience as anybody who does not receive his or her own will be registered during the next exercise,’’ he said.
The exercise, which began on Friday, has witnessed a large turnout of people at the polling units in the state.
In Yakasai, Tarauni, Gandun Albasa, Sabuwar Gandu, Court road and Tukuntawa areas of Kano metropolis, the exercise went on smoothly.
It was, however, observed that people had to queue for a long time before collecting their cards in some places.
A cross section of the people expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise.
They, however, called on the commission to extend the period in view of the delay experienced in the commencement of the exercise in some areas. (NAN)
