Abuja – Prof. Manhood Yakubu, Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director General, NYSC, have admonished corps members to comply with electoral laws in the conduct of elections.
A statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, NYSC Director of Press and Public Relation, quotes the two officials as giving the warning when addressing corps members during a recent visit to Bayelsa.
Yakubu urged the corps members, who will serve as ad hoc staff in the election, to avoid actions that may undermine the integrity of the election.
The INEC boss assured that adequate security had been provided for all corps members and corpers lodges in the state during and after the election.
He described the corps members as the most reliable, dedicated and committed electoral officers, while assuring them of prompt payment of all their entitlements through their bank accounts.
Also, Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim, NYSC DG, said that the involvement of corps members in the country’s electoral system had added more credibility to previous elections.
He described corps members as patriotic Nigerians on national assignment that deserve appreciation from every Nigerian.
‘Be neutral and non-partisan because NYSC would not tolerate any corps member that violates the Electoral Act’, he said.
Ibrahim also advised them to be security conscious and identify the closest escape routes near their places of assignment in case of any emergency.
‘’Be courteous when dealing with the electorate, caution yourself when provoked and ensure that your phone is fully charged with enough call cards during the election.
“Run for your dear lives in case of any emergency and don’t endanger your safety’’, the DG added. (NAN)
