AWKA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) for another seven days in Anambra State.
Notice of the extension was disclosed in Awka on Friday by the Resident Commissioner of INEC in the state, Prof Chukwuemeka Onukaogu.
He said this during a stakeholders meeting held by the Commission at its headquarters in Awka. During the last exercise in the state, complaints marred the exercise as machines broke down, while those who registered could not obtain their cards.
Onukaogu said those who did not get their cards could now go and obtain theirs as they were ready, while those who were registering afresh would be issued their cards instantly or on the following day.
He said “honestly, I am at fault for what happened during the last time but I assure you it will not happen again, experience is the best teacher and we learn every day.
“People accuse me of manipulating things during such exercise here but we should know that I am a man under authourity, there is limit to what I can do”, the commissioner said.
The stakeholders’ meeting was attended by representatives of security agencies, paramilitary outfits, politicians and civil society groups. (NAN)
