Abuja – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says its is partnering Teenz Global
Foundation (TGF), an NGO, on the enlightenment of youths and teenagers.
The commission, in its daily bulletin issued on Wednesday in Abuja, said that the partnership was to ensure that teenagers and youths had appreciable understanding of the electoral process.
The bulletin quoted the INEC Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, as saying that the partnership was demonstrated through a quiz competition on voter education organised by the commission in Abuja.
“When children are properly and adequately groomed at the early days of their lives, they grow to become better citizens.”
Osaze-Uzzi, who was represented at the occasion by the Deputy Director, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) Liaison, Mrs Rose Anthony-Orarian, lauded the initiative of the NGO and expressed optimism that Nigeria would be great with such platform.
“With such platform where young people are encouraged to appreciate the importance of education, Nigeria’s cultural heritage and their role as citizens of this great country, our society will be better for it.’’
In her remarks, the Project Manager of TGF, Ms Gloria Onyekwere, said that the programme was intended to harness peaceful values in various Nigerian cultures and to promote peaceful co-existence among teenagers, using indigenous languages. (NAN)
