BAUCHI – The Nigeria Youth Organization (NYO) said it would soon convene a peace summit to find a lasting solution to the security challenges in the North East Sub-region of the country.
National President of the organisation, Amb. Ahmed Musa, gave this indication during a press conference on Sunday in Bauchi.
He said that the summit would be held in Bauchi, but did not give specific date, adding that retired military officers, traditional rulers, religious leaders and retired police officer, would be invited to attend .
The president also said that the organisation would encourage members of the insurgent group to send their representatives to the summit.
“This step is to enable this zone, North East, regain its position as the most peaceful zone in the country,” he said.
According to him, the summit will focus on the way forward and participants are be expected to lay emphasis on solutions to the security challenges.
He called on youths to be more patriotic and prayerful at this trying period, stressing that it was time to “tell ourselves the truth.”
“We shall remain peaceful and law abiding citizens, who respect constituted authorities, traditional and religious leaders, and pray for peaceful elections, come 2015,” he said. (NAN)
