Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Residents of Pegi Community have decried the insecurity of lives and property in the area and called on FCT Commissioner of Police in conjunction with FCT administration to set up a police division in the community.
Pegi is a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory where indigenes of Kubwa, Apo, Bwari and others were relocated by the government.
The Pegi Community Development Association (PECDA), represented by Mr. Aderibigbe Isaac Taiwo made the call on Wednesday at the town hall meeting on security challenges in FCT.
According to him, the security challenges in pegi community is worsened by lack of access road linking the community and Kuje area council.
He informed that Pegi residents have been providing security for the community and also pays to traditional rulers, chiefs and community along the area to provide security on the road to the community but that their co-operation has not been encouraging. This is because, we still have robbery on weekly basis and nobody is arrested in connection with these robberies.
Aderibigbe said that the one chance menace in Abuja are perpetrated by people living within the satellite towns and that security in these areas need to be improved to curb the crime rate.
The dignitaries who graced the occasion are FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr Bala Ciroma and former commissioner of police, Mr Lawrence Alobi.
The town hall meeting on security and challenges in FCT was organised by Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council in collaboration with Human Rights Radio.
