Ogoja, (Cross River) – The Army has recorded tremendous achievements in spite of the challenges faced by it in the on-going battle against the Boko Haram sect, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has said.
Buratai made the statement on Tuesday while addressing officers and soldiers at the 130 Battalion, Nigerian Army Ogoja in Ogoja local government area of Cross River.
“Since my assumption of office, we have identified a number of challenges including welfare and general logistics for our personnel.
“In spite of the challenges, we have identified that the officers and soldiers in the North-East have been making the Nigerian Army proud.
“The operation against the Boko Haram sect in the North-East is going on well and we have recorded remarkable achievements,’’ he said.
The COAS said that the mandate given to the Nigerian Army by President Muhammadu Buhari to end insurgency by December was achievable.
“In line with Mr President’s directive, we are determined to end insurgency by the end of December.
“We have acquired a good number of equipment and our gallant men have also been deployed to the troubled areas in the North-East to restore peace and order,’’ he said.

He advised personnel of the Army to respect the ruling authority and the rights of the civilian populace.
He assured officers and soldiers of the battalion that the issue of accommodation would be given speedy consideration as the Army was determined to provide adequate welfare for its personnel. (NAN)
