Abuja- The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria has called for closer collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on building the capacity of their members.
Maj.-Gen. Umaru Usman (rtd), the National President of the institute, made the call in Abuja when he led a delegation on a sensitization visit to some government agencies including Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and Directorate of Road Traffic Services (VIO), among others.
He said that the collaboration would also see the institute partner VIO in the training of their staff.
Usman said the institute’s aim was to enhance professional standard and best practice in logistics and transport in government institutions.
He said the institute had trained sound professionals through well thought-out long and short-term educational, training and certification programmes.
“We have also supported organisations, industries and government to improve on their efficiencies.
“After a thorough due diligence on our professional standard and practices, CILT Nigeria has been granted a territorial status by the international headquarters, to join the universal league of autonomous CILT territories.

He said that as a professional organisation, agencies under the logistics and transport sector ought to be professionals in their dealings with the public.
He said the institute could provide implant workshops and short programmes that would yield certification in some areas of the agencies’ staff operations.
Responding, FRSC Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi said the commission was willing to assist and cooperate with the institute through its human capital development programmes.
At the VIO office, Alhaji Danjuma Garba, the Director, Directorate of Road Traffic Services said with the new thinking that the directorate had, partnering with the institute would promote efficiency and add value to its services.
“As professionals, we have to identify with professional bodies like yours to improve our performances and efficiency.
“We have started a rebranding process where we are making the staff to have a better attitude to work and put a human face on the job.
“We also intend to see that we move forward by using ICT as most of our programmes are now computerised.
“In the next one or two weeks, we are coming out with a very laudable training programme for staff tailored towards efficiency on vehicle testing, acquisition of drivers’ license and other things,’’ Garba said. (NAN)
