ABUJA – The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Wednesday urged the Federal Government to embark on mass recruitment of youths into the security agencies.
The National President, CAN Youth Wing, Pastor Simon Dolly, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
“We want government to increase the number of security personnel because they are too small.
“We want the government to recruit million of Nigerian Youths into the security services. It will reduce unemployment and help curtail the exigency in the country,’’ he said.
Dolly appealed to Nigerians to corporate with the security personnel by giving them adequate information in the fight against terrorism.
He said Nigerians must try and provide good atmosphere for government and for the security agencies to operate.
The cleric said the security personnel must be well informed for them to curtail insurgency, saying security was everybody’s business.
Dolly called on the international community to support Nigeria to tackle its security challenges.
He said fighting terrorism should not just be by blocking the roads with barricades but rather import sensitive gadgets that could detect bombs and arms from a distance.
The cleric stressed the need for the Nigerian security agencies to apply the use of sophisticated digital equipment in the ongoing war against terrorism.
He also appealed to Nigerians to promote, sustain peace and harmony in their respective communities. (NAN)
