Port Harcourt- A cross-section of Nigerians resident in South Africa on Sunday commended the Super Eagles for their outing against the Bafana Bafana in an international friendly.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the South African national male football team forced the Nigerian side to a 1-1 draw in the match played at Nelspruit, near Pretoria.
Mr Ikechukwu Anyene, President of the Nigerian Union in South Africa, told NAN in a telephone interview from Pretoria that Nigerians were impressed with the Eagles’ performance.
“The Nigerian community got 1,000 tickets to watch the match. Even though the tickets were not enough, we still went out in our numbers to cheer the Eagles.

“We were impressed with the team, especially the new faces who made their debut against South Africa.
“Before the game, the South African team’s manager, Ephraims `Shakes’ Mashaba, had boasted that his team would roast Nigeria. Of course, they were lucky to get that draw,’’ he said.
Anyene said the Eagles’ team featured against South Africa was an improvement on the team which played against Uganda.
He said the Eagles showed the flashes of a good team in the making, and urged the handlers to settle down and build a new national team.
“The Eagles played well, but we believe they could have done better,’’ the union president said.(NAN)
