Kano- The Kano State Directorate for Youths Development and Economic Empowerment said this year International Youths Week in Kano State would be anchored on youths’ survival and reduction of extreme poverty.
The acting Director-General of the Directorate, Malam Aminu Kura, made the disclosure at a news conference in Kano on
Wednesday on preparations for the week.
He said poverty could be reduced among youths through provision of education, employment, shelter, health and social security.
He added that the UN had declared Aug. 12 of every year to be the beginning of International Youths Week.
He described the week as an important one because it was a period when the entire nation would focus attention on the
needs, rights, obligations, interests and aspirations of the youths.
Kura said that the week was aimed at reminding the public of their responsibilities toward proper upbringing and care of the youths.
According to him, the Kano State Government is committed to support the youths in celebrating the week every year and
the 2015 celebration will be unique.
The director-general said the week would begin with special prayers in Churches and Mosques for God’s protection throughout the celebration.

According to him, it will be followed by series of activities like sports competition, quiz and other events to showcase various youths talents.
He then urged youths in Kano to come out in large numbers to celebrate the week and to widen their horizon. (NAN)
