Abubakar, who is also the National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), made the call while addressing newsmen in Gombe on Saturday.
He also called for the provision of adequate security for the polls.
He advised Nigerian voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC).
“You should not be discouraged by the postponement of the elections. Do not allow yourselves to be disfranchised, come out and exercise your civic right. This is the only way you will vote into office a leader of your choice, “ he said.
According to the director-general, in 2011 when election date was shifted, the change affected a lot of people.
“When the election was shifted in 2011, people burnt their cards because they felt voting won’t change anything.
“Do not be discouraged, and do not develop apathy for the elections,” he said. (NAN)
