The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has approached the Supreme Court to challenge the Appeal Court’s ruling that upheld its classification as a terrorist organization.
The group’s legal representative, Aloy Ejimakor, filed a five-ground notice of appeal, arguing that IPOB’s proscription violates its constitutional right to a fair hearing.
In the appeal, marked SC/CA/A/214/2018 and submitted on February 7, IPOB contended that the Appeal Court misinterpreted the Nigerian Constitution by giving national security concerns priority over its right to due process.
The group also argued that the legal proceedings leading to its proscription did not meet the required standard of proof in criminal cases.
