The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong warning against any plans to establish cattle ranches or settlement schemes, including RUGA, in Nigeria’s South-East region.
This message was delivered by Chika Edoziem, Head of IPOB’s Directorate of State, during his 2025 New Year broadcast. Edoziem criticized the federal government, led by President Bola Tinubu, warning that such schemes could jeopardize peace and security in the region.
IPOB specifically called on Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah to abandon any intentions of implementing RUGA in the state. The group reiterated its previous warnings to South-East leaders, emphasizing that it would not tolerate initiatives that could lead to unwanted incursions into the region.
Edoziem declared: “To the Tinubu administration, IPOB has maintained a neutral stance towards your governance since you assumed office. However, let it be clear—Biafra land is out of bounds for any cattle ranching or settlement scheme, be it RUGA or anything else.”
IPOB pledged strong resistance to any such attempts. Edoziem further warned, “If the Tinubu administration wishes to escalate tensions, it should proceed with its plans for RUGA or cattle settlements in Biafra land. We are ready to demonstrate our resolve.”
The statement underscores IPOB’s steadfast opposition to federal initiatives perceived as encroachments on the autonomy and security of the South-East region.
