Tehran –  Iranian Foreign Ministry has denied Iran involvement in Israel-Syria violence, saying “the country does not have drones in Syria, nor involved in the earlier downing of an Israeli fighter jet”.

The Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghassemi on Saturday described Israel’s claims of Iranian involvement as “lies”.

“These accusations by the Zionists are so ridiculous that we will not even respond to them.

“Iran is only acting as a military advisor in Syria; this was at the request of the Syrian government.

“The Syrian army has the legitimate right to react to foreign aggression and defend its country, Ghassemi said.

Syria’s air defence systems had on Saturday downed an Israeli F-16 jet near the border on

Israeli military spokesman Ronen Manelis has said that the plane was downed by Syrian systems, according to an early military assessment.

“The Syrians and the Iranians are playing with fire.

“We are ready to exact a very heavy price towards anyone who acts against us, but our intentions are not towards an escalation,” Manelis said on the army’s Twitter feed (dpa/NAN)
