OMU-ARAN – The Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara has inaugurated a managmenet committee to create awareness on the prevention, outbreak and management of Ebola Virus Disease.
The Chairman of the council, Alhaji Luqman Owolewa, while inaugurating the nine-man committee in Omu-Aran, Kwara on Thursday urged the members to discharge their duties with seriousness.
Owolewa said the inauguration was in line with the state government’s policy of providing the populace with a clean bill of health through adequate sensitisation.
He advised the committee to close ranks and discharge its responsibilities diligently by making decisions that would guarantee a disease-free society for the residents.
“The composition of this committee is another policy thrust of the present administration of Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed aimed at ensuring healthy living for the people of the state.
“Since only a healthy environment can bring about the desired development, there is therefore the need for government to take the bull by the horn by making the environment free and conducive for the people.
“I want you to carry out your assignment in view of its urgent national importance which needs effective synergy to ensure maximum result,” he said. [eap_ad_2] Mr Sunday Opabola, Special Adviser to the Governor on Secondary Health, in a speech, urged the committee not to leave any stone unturned in the discharge of its responsibilities.
Opabola, who heads the state’s Committee on Ebola, also urged the members to always be free to interact with the Ebola committee members for the achievement of the desired aims and objectives.
Oba Sikiru Sanni, Chairman, Traditional Rulers in the council, in his remark, described the composition of the committee as “a right step in the right direction”.
Sanni, who is the Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, pledged the cooperation of the monarchs in the local government for the committee to achieve the desired result.
The committee,headed by Owolewa, also has Oba Sanni, Mrs Mary Afolayan, the council’s Head of Health Department.
Others are the Supervisory Councilor for Health, Mr Kunle Folayan, Mr Samuel Buoye, Mr Kadiri Ajiboye, Mr Julius Ashaolu, Mrs Taiwo Abejide and Mrs Victoria Afolayan.(NAN)[eap_ad_3]
