ABUJA – Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba has pledged to rescue the state from poverty and put it on the part of growth and development.
lshaku made the pledge in his address to the people shortly after taking the oath of office as governor on Friday in Jalingo.
He said that current challenges of insecurity, disunity, unemployment, poverty and hunger in the state would be tackled frontally to pave the way for development.
“Our immediate focus will be to restore security and resettle displaced persons to enable us focus on developmental issues together.
“We have to take initiatives that will assist us to explore the state’s huge potentials in agricultural and industrial resources to boost the economy,” he said.
Ishaku urged the people of the state to join hands with the government to rescue the state from its drawbacks as well as in reconstructing dilapidated schools and hospitals.
He was sworn-in alongside his deputy, Alhaji Haruna Manu.
In Benue, the governor, Mr Samuel Ortom, said his administration would tackle the problems of the state through a five-point development plan.
In his inaugural speech on Friday in Makurdi, the governor said his administration would focus on good governance and revenue security, education, health services, investments and promotion of gender and youth equality.
He said his administration would vigorously pursue the programmes to uplift the standard of living of the people, adding that public officers would be held accountable for their actions.
He vowed to recover funds looted from the treasury of the state and said that culprits would be prosecuted.
“Government officials who mismanaged public funds will be sanctioned according to the law; they must account for all their deeds while in office,” he said.

Ortom promised to introduce measures that would revive the state’s ailing economy to enable him commence his party’s free education scheme from primary to secondary school levels. (NAN)
