LAGOS – The Medical Director, Isolo General Hospital, Lagos, Dr Funmilayo Bankole, on Wednesday said 2, 200 births were recorded in the hospital in 2014.
Bankole told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the figures were higher than the 1,500 births recorded in the hospital in 2013.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
According to her, the number of deliveries has been on increase since the inauguration of the new Maternal and Child Centre (MCC) in 2010.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“In 2014, despite the hiccups occasioned by industrial action and the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), our hospital recorded total delivery of 2,200 births.
“Our efforts, with the support of the state government through the provision of needed equipment and infrastructure, contributed to our being able to manage the increasing number of births,” she said.
Bankole said that the major challenge facing the hospital was the issue of erratic power supply which she said had hindered adequate healthcare delivery.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“The assessment of power need of the hospital as at 2014 by the electricity board shows that we require over 500KVA power support.

“The hospital currently runs on its very old 350KVA generator and this is grossly inadequate.
“Once there is power outage during our peak period, we always have to resort to load shedding, and this affects healthcare or service delivery,” she said.
Bankole, however, urged the state government to provide the hospital with 500KVA generator to enhance its service delivery and function optimally. (NAN)
