Tel Aviv – About 500 soldiers on Friday set to be deployed throughout Israel to help police maintain lockdown conditions required to stop the spread of the coronavirus, army officials said.
The troops would be deployed to Israel’s eight police districts to help monitor street barricades, assist with patrolling and help to isolate quarantined areas effect from Sunday.
Earlier, the Military spokesperson, Jonathan Conricus, expressed the readiness of the army in assisting the police.
Israeli residents have been ordered to stay at home since Wednesday in an attempt to halt the spread of the virus, which first appeared in China in 2019, which can cause the potentially fatal respiratory disease.
According to the Health Ministry, 3,035 people in Israel are infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus, while 79 have recovered. Ten people have died. (dpa/NAN)
