Incumbent Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godswill Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), minutes ago completed his victory over his main rival, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in yesterday’s governorship ballot in the state.
Already leading with about 90,000 votes, Obaseki iced it with victory in the Ovia South West, the only local government area whose results had yet to be announced as the collation exercise went on break early Sunday afternoon. Obaseki garnered 12,659 votes as against 10,636 by Ize-Iyamu.
He had earlier beaten Ize-Iyamu with 13,445 votes to 10,458 in Orhionmwon, Ize-Iyamu’s home LGA, whose collation officer previously went missing but later reappeared to announce the results.
The election held yesterday was generally peaceful and witnessed high turnout of voters.
The Independent National electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to soon declare a winner after the final calculation of the candidates’ scores. (News Express)
