Rome – Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi on Sunday ruled out his country’s military involvement in the ongoing conflict in Syria.
“What we need least of all is a multiplication of knee-jerk reactions without any strategic vision, we can permit everything apart from a Libya number two.
“Four years of civil war in Libya showed that the military mission pushed in 2011 by the then French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, had been no happy choice,” Renzi said.
Renzi expressed his respect for the current French President, Francois Hollande, who had ordered airstrikes against the Islamic State terrorist group in Syria.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He said that Italy would be prepared to fight all forms of terrorism, when there was a clear strategy.
Renzi also noted that Italy already had troops involved in many current flashpoints.
“We have more troops abroad than all the others, after America and France,” having missions in Lebanon, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Somalia, and Iraq, ‘’ he added. (dpa/NAN)
