YOLA – The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) said on Friday in Yola that it trained more than 2,000 youths from Adamawa and Taraba states on various skills last year.
The Fund’s Area Manager in Yola, Alhaji Jibrin Bukar, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the youths were trained in shoe-making, and generator and GSM phone repairs.
He said that some youths were trained in welding, lubrication and yam follower processing.
“As part of our efforts to empower idle youths, the ITF has trained 2,000 youths in Adamawa and Taraba states in 2013,’’ Bukar said.
He said that 1,000 youths were trained from each state during the exercise.
He said that the youths were incorporated into cooperative groups and linked with micro- finance banks for soft loans to enable them begin their own businesses after the training.
He commended the Adamawa government for providing equipment for 27 of the trainees in shoe-making, GSM and generator repairs.
“We urged the states to do more, considering the number of youths that were trained,’’ Bukar said. (NAN)
