LAGOS – The Executive Committee of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has withdraw its membership of the SportAccord indefinitely.
A statement released on Thursday said it decided unanimously to respect the current ongoing process, and to join in solidarity with the
ASOIF member international federations to terminate the relationship with SportAccord.
“This decision is made with the hope that the differences between SportAccord and ASOIF, as well as with the IOC, will be resolved in the very near future”.
It adds: “ITTF is ready to play a peace maker role if requested’’.
The ITTF, however, wished the forthcoming meetings and discussions among all parties success in achieving the desired goal of a united international sports structure to the benefit of all international sports federations.
The president of SportAcord Marius Vizer had criticised the IOC reform agenda proposed by its President Thomas Bach, which has received wide acclaim, sparking angry reactions from virtually all the international federations that had now resolved to pullout from the body.
This would be the 11th Interantional Federation to pullout from SportAccord. SportAccord is an umbrella body for some select Olympic and non-Olympic sports.
