Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The former Governor of Plateau State, Sen. Jonah Jang has reacted to the Supreme Court verdict that revalidated the victory of Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State who was formerly sacked by the Appeal Court.
After the March 18th governorship election, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), emerged the winner and was dragged to the Election Petition Tribunal by the All Progressive Congress (APC), candidate Dr Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe who came second at the polls. https://sundiatapost.com/supreme-court-beacon-of-hope-for-plateau-citizens-gov-mutfwang/
However, the Tribunal dismissed the Petition of Goshwe, upholding the victory of Mutfwang.
Not satisfied, the APC Goshwe proceeded to the court of Appeal where they secured victory against the Governor.
Mutfwang consequently proceeded to the Supreme Court to seek redress where against the expectations of the APC he got victory on Friday 12, January 2024.
Elated by the victory, a former governor and Senator, Jonah David Jang, sent a congratulatory message to Governor Mutfwang, saying that God has shown Plateau Mercy.
According to him: “Surely, it is because of God’s mercy that He has allowed us to witness the good news today.
“Indeed, the Governor’s victory at the Supreme Court is a victory for democracy and against the wishes of anti democratic forces”, he said.
Jang, who spoke in a statement signed by his media consultant, Comrade Clinton Garuba, added that the anti democratic forces tried as much as possible to manipulate the will of the people without success.
He continued: “We must thank the justices for upholding the Rule of Law, thereby affirming the long held belief that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.
“We thank them for not allowing themselves to be manipulated because we are aware that the same forces of darkness in their usual manner had wanted to thwart the mandate of the people, plunge the State into disarray and set us years backwards.
“But we thank God because that evil intention was not allowed to stand as the voice of the people is the voice of God.
“We thank Plateau people for their vigilance, for trooping out in their hundreds and thousands in condemnation and resistance after the miscarriage of justice by the Court of Appeal.
“They all came out to lend their voices against the injustice. We salute your resilience.
“We thank the press for escalating the voice of the people against evil manipulation and injustice and for standing for what is right.
“We specially thank Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for not interfering in the judicial process despite the pressure by the same forces of darkness.
“As sad as it is, the damage that has been done to Plateau by the miscarriage of justice at the Court of Appeal is in great proportion because the kind of judgment that was delivered by the lower court has robbed the people of their rightful representation both at the State and the National Assembly. But all hope is not lost”, the statement reads in part.
