MANGU – Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau State has urged the 3,500 corps members posted to the State to feel free to initiate steps that would improve the living standard of people in the rural areas.
Jang gave the advice in Mangu on Thursday at the beginning of the orientation course for the Batch C corps members.
“You must try to initiate something worthwhile; you must identify something in each society and try to leave your mark’’, he said.
He stressed the need for discipline, loyalty, obedience and patriotism, pointing out that Nigeria was in dire need of such attributes to move forward.
Jang cautioned employers against rejecting corps members posted to them, but to rather positively engage the energy and potential of the corps members toward a better Nigeria.
Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Plateau State, Mrs Lois Meller, urged the corps members to be conscious about security.
Meller, who spoke shortly before the oath of allegiance was administered on the corps members, advised them to strive to make positive contributions so that benefitting communities would always remember them.
She expressed happiness that Plateau that hitherto had less than 500 corps members, now had 3,500, noting that such was a confirmation that the state was secure for everyone.
The coordinator urged Plateau communities to encourage the corps members so that they would feel relaxed and comfortable to serve the state. (NAN)
