Malammadori – The Chairman, Jigawa Consumer Protection Committee (CPC) Alhaji Faruk Abdallah, has called on butchers to ensure proper sanitation of slaughter slabs to enhance production of hygienic beef.
Abdallah told newsmen on Thursday that the call was imperative to enhance hygiene in meat consumption in the rural communities.
He said that the committee had sensitised butchers and meat sellers at Malammadori town on dangers associated with operating in dirty and unclean environment.
Abdallah explained that the agency encouraged butchers to conduct waste clearance exercise at the slaughter slab to safeguard public health.
“Butchers must comply with the best environment and sanitation practices to check circulation of unwholesome meat,” he said.
The chairman said the committee also sensitised fish sellers against indiscriminate application of preservatives on fish products to check poisoning.
Abdallah also warned traders against adulteration of food commodities to avoid facing the wrath of the law.
