Dutse – The Jigawa Government is to spend N171 million to convert 53 diesel powered water schemes to solar powered ones, according to a statement issued by Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, the Commissioner for Information.
The commissioner, on Tuesday in Dutse, stated that the decision was taken during the state Executive Council meeting, adding that the gesture was to reduce the cost of operation and maintenance of the water schemes.
The commissioner added that “the executive council considered and approved the conversion of 28 diesel motorised water schemes to solar energy powered ones under the state’s water board at the total cost of N73.1 million.
“The council also approved the conversion of 25 water schemes to solar powered ones under its Small Towns Water and Sanitation (STOWA) at the cost
of N97.9 million.
“The conversion of the water schemes to solar power is to reduce the cost of operation and maintenance, thereby cutting the huge financial burden on government.” (NAN)
