Dutse – Jigawa Government has pledged to correct the wrong Grade Level (GL) placement of students of schools of nursing in the state.
Alhaji Isa Garba-Dallah, Acting Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Service, disclosed this in Dutse on Wednesday at the first scientific conference organized by the state chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwifery (NANNM).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that students of schools of nursing in the state are automatically absorbed in the civil service on GL 3 as soon as they gained admission.
Garba-Dallah, however, noted that the students, provided they possessed five credits in their O level examinations, were supposed to be placed on GL 4 not GL 3.
The Permanent Secretary assured that the error would be corrected after a round table discussion at the Head of Service office was concluded.
He also said that the state would address the dearth of staff in its various health centres.
“Effective healthcare delivery remains a top priority of this administration; I want to assure you that we will do everything possible to address the shortages of health workers in our hospitals.
“The automatic employment we have been giving to nursing students is an effort towards that direction.
“This government has also built two health institutions – School of Nursing Hadejia and School of Midwifery Babura in addition to the existing College of Nursing and Midwifery in Birnin Kudu,” he said.
