DUTSE – The Jigawa Police Command on Thursday said it had received eight Toyota Hilux vehicles from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, for highway patrol in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Jinjiri Abdu, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.
Abdu said the vehicles would be used for the “Safer Highway Patrol’’ introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, after banning checkpoints across the country.
“As you know, the I-G has banned roadblocks nationwide and initiated the safer highway patrol and distributed vehicles to all the states.

“So, we have been given eight Hilux vehicles for the same purpose,’’ Abdu said.
He also said that the vehicles had been distributed to teams that would patrol all the highways in the state.
The PPRO said that the major duty of the teams was to provide maximum security on the highways.
“The major duty of the teams is to provide maximum security on our highways.
“So, we in Jigawa have already implemented the patrol to the fullest level and deployed our teams to our major highways in the state,’’ Jinjiri said.
The PPRO said the teams would patrol the highways for 24 hours.
According to him, the teams will patrol the Babura-Suletankarkar to Gumel, Maigari and the Gujungu-Hadejia axis.
He said a team would also patrol the Kiyawa-Dutse-Birninkudu and Gwaram axis, while the rest would take care of the Kirikasamma-Birniwa-Guri axis.
Abdu, therefore, urged motorists and other road users to cooperate with the teams for the successful conduct of the exercise. (NAN)
