BIRNAWA – The Jigawa State Ministry for Women Affairs has commenced the training of 30 rural women on livestock and poultry production in Birniwa Local Government Area.
The Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Bundai Bura, who declared the workshop open, said the trainees would be exposed to modern techniques on livestock and poultry production.
Bura said the women would be trained under the Enhance Livestock Programme for women initiated by the ministry.
He said the state government would give N30,000 to each of the trainees, to enable them to buy goats and chicks, adding that the gesture would enable them to engage in productive activities.
“The initiative is to empower rural women, enhance wealth creation and reduce poverty in the society.
“The money will be disbursed under a soft loan scheme to the beneficiaries.”
He urged the trainees to ensure effective utilisation of the money to enhance participation in the programme.
Also speaking at the occasion, Alhaji Tijjani Tafida, the Head of Department, Community Services in the council, said the participants were drawn from the 10 wards in the area. (NAN)
