Joe Biden has edged closer to becoming the next President of the United States after winning the popular vote in Wisconsin. The Democrat hopeful achieved a narrow victory over Donald Trump in the Midwestern state on Wednesday morning, giving him a further 10 electoral college votes, bringing his total to 248.
He won the state back for the Democrats after it switched to President Trump’s Republican party in 2016. Donald Trump sits on 213 votes, with 270 needed to win the contest.
Michigan – another closely fought state – is expected to declare its winner later today, with Biden also achieving a narrow lead there. Trump is currently winning in two southern states yet to report – Georgia and North Carolina. Nevada will declare its results on Thursday afternoon, while Pennsylvania – believed to be key to this year’s final result – plans to announce the winner of its 20 electoral college votes by Friday.
