While many, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo have rated the performance of President Goodluck Jonathan as below average, the latest governance poll results released by NOIPolls Limited for the month of November 2014 showed that 60 percent of adult Nigerians approved of Jonathan’s performance in the past one month.
The job approval rating is consistent with the 60 percent recorded in October 2014. However 27 percent of the 1000 respondents randomly selected across the six geopolitical zones of the country, disapproved of the President’s performance while 13 percent neither approved nor disapproved of his performance as they remained neutral.
Also, an evaluation of the President’s performance on key elements of his transformation agenda revealed a very good rating in Health for the first time since January 2014, while he performed on the average in Job Creation, Economy, Education, Agriculture & Food Security, Transportation and Foreign Policy & Diplomacy except for Security and Power in which he performed poorly.
These results represent the eleventh in the 2014 monthly series of governance polls conducted by NOIPolls to gauge the opinions and perceptions of Nigerians regarding the approval rating of the President, the performance of the President on key elements of his transformation agenda, and the state of power supply in the country.
Monthly trend analysis of the President’s approval rating reveals that the rating remained constant at 60percent in November 2014. This rating has remained the same after the significant 14-points decline in approval rating recorded in September 2014. In addition, the average rating of the President’s job performance over the eleven months in 2014 stands at 58.7percent while the current result is slightly higher than the eleven months average (1.3-points).
The President’s performance in security and power which are major components of the Transformation Agenda has remained very poor in spite of the priority the administration has given to them. His performance in security, in particular, has remained very poor since February 2014 and this is the only aspect of his transformation agenda that has constantly been rated poorly after it was ranked above average in January 2014.
