ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – President Goodluck Jonathan will for the last time preside over a meeting of the Council of State on Tuesday.
The meeting is scheduled to hold at the State House, Abuja by 11 am.
The council had last met in February.
The Council consists of the President (as the chairman), Vice President, all former Presidents or former Heads of State, all former Chief Justices of Nigeria, President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives, all state governors and the Attorney-General of the Federation.
One of the key responsibilities of the council is to advise the President in the exercise of his powers with respect to INEC, including the appointments of members of the commission.

Members of the Council also advise the president in the exercise of his powers with respect to the national population census and compilation; prerogative of mercy; award of national honours; the National Judicial Council (including the appointment of the members, other than ex-officio members of that Council); and the National Population Commission (including the appointment of members of that Commission). The Council also approves the appointment of the Inspector General of Police.
