JALINGO (Sundiata Post) – President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said in Jalingo, Taraba State that a presidential resort would be built on the Mambilla Plateau which would attract world leaders to the state.
According to him, the people of the state would benefit immensely from the top grade infrastructure and facilities that would be provided at the resort.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Speaking at the presidential campaign rally held at the Jolly Nyame stadium, Jonathan explained that the Mambilla Plateau is the most beautiful part in the country.
He stated that if re-elected, his government would ensure that all the roads in the state are upgraded for the benefit of the people.
“What we have in mind is that immediately we develop the Mambilla dam to some level, we are going to build what we called a Presidential resort on Mambilla
“Most other countries, they have where the President go to rest for one or two weeks, in Nigeria, we don’t have that, in the whole of West Africa, we don’t have, even in Africa, we don’t have places like that expect a place like Kenya.
“We want to develop the Mambilla Plateau to the level where President and Presidents of other countries will be coming and if Presidents of other countries will be coming, the infrastructure must be top grade infrastructure”, Jonathan said
He noted that the Mambilla dam project is the biggest dam in the country, stressing that arrangements have already been made towards the completion of the dam.
He explained that Mambilla dam apart from power generation would also create jobs for everybody in Taraba State because of the facilities that would follow the completion of the dam.
On the Kashambilla dam in the state, Jonathan said the project was already a reality, saying that the contractors are already on ground while the sum of $1 billion had already been provided by the Federal Government as counterpart funding.
The President said that Kashambilla dam is a multi purpose dam, stressing that when completed would prevent flooding which was experienced in 2012 in the country.
He stated that the dam would also be used for irrigation purposes to stimulate commercial agriculture as well as power generation.
Also speaking at the rally, Vice President Namadi Sambo said that the President has never failed the state, stressing that if re-elected, the state would continue to witness development and progress.
He assured that Kashambilla dam would be commissioned soon and urged the people of the state to continue to support the President.
Senate President, David Mark; Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Dakwambo and Director-General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Dr. Amadu Ali while speaking at the rally urged the people of the state to vote for PDP in the forthcoming elections.
Earlier, Jonathan was at the palace of the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abass Tafida for royal blessing towards his ambition.
