FORMER Minister of Police Affairs, Alowei Broderick Bozimo, said the decision of President Goodluck Jonathan to concede defeat and congratulate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, even before full results were declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be better appreciated later in future.
He said: “Jonathan is really God-sent. He was quite open and cleared the political space for Buhari’s victory. One can liken him to the biblical Jonathan who laid his life so that David can survive.”
The former minister who spoke during the burial of his father-inlaw, late Chief Ezekiel Ukodie, at Patani, said it was wrong for anyone to believe that Jonathan was weak because of the initial slow pace of fighting insurgency.

He said the military was in a bad shape to tackle the Boko Haram insurgents because it lacked functional combat equipment like warplanes, ammunition and other essentials needed for battle.
He said: “Anybody who says that Jonathan is weak does not know the workings of government. To fight the well-armed insurgents, you have to be capable.
It is not a joke. America disappointed Nigeria, they refused to sell the right military hardware needed for the battle.” He recalled that the Boko Haram insurgency began when he was Minister of Police Affairs in 2003 and that they fought hard to curtail it, but that today it has become a serious challenge to the country.
