Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Jos Electricity Distribution Company, (JED), has promoted eight staff who used only N6 million to fix three abandoned 7.5 MVA transformers that would have gulped over several millions to fix.
According to the energy company, the transformers were abandoned for over 10 years and each of them would have cost over a N100 million to procure.
The three transformers are in Jos and Makurdi, our correspondent said. https://sundiatapost.com/electricity-embrace-map-scheme-to-obtain-meters-jed-urges-customers/
“It is instructive to note that this team had saved the company from several hundreds of millions of naira that may have been spent on the procurement of new transformers if they were to be bought or if they were to be repaired by vendors.
“The cost of each of the three 7.5 MVA transformers in the market at the moment is about or more than a hundred million naira. I am not talking about revenue losses as a result of the transformers not being in the circuit.
“Some of these repaired transformers had been abandoned and lying fallow for over ten years and the total money spent by the company in the course of the repairs apart from transformer oil was not more than six million naira”, the Chief Technical Officer of the company Engr. Hamisu Jigawa said. https://sundiatapost.com/over-20-transformers-vandalised-in-march-in-plateau-jed-md-mohammed-decried/
However, in a statement signed by the Spokesman of the energy company, Dr. Friday Elijah, said the Managing Director of the company, Engr. Abdu Mohammed, while presenting gifts, cash rewards and certificate of excellence to the promoted staff, reminded them that he had upon resumption of office said he would always reward hard working staff.
“Recall that when I took over as the MD and CEO of this company last year, I sued for cooperation and support from all the staff. I also promised to reward all hard-working staff. This is the beginning of that promise”, he said.
He urged staff to exhibit commitment and dedication to duty to reverse the fortune of the company adding that the management would not hesitate to reward staff who show exceptional services.
“Wherever you are in the company, endeavour to put in your best. We will spot you and you will be recognized and rewarded accordingly”, he added.
On his part, the Head, of Revenue Protection Unit, Abdulaziz Adediji disclosed that the three promoted staff apart from saving the company a humongous amount of money from energy thieves said that the staff had to resort to undercover operations to achieve results.
“Some customers were stealing our energy by bypassing our meters but we need watertight evidence to get hold of them. These staff from the Revenue Protection Unit had to disguise themselves to be able to get the needed evidence.
“As soon as they caught them red-handed, the culprit offered them a bribe to the tune of six million naira which they rejected”, he said.
