Gashaka – Alhaji Zubairu Sambo, a journalist, on Sunday received his staff of office as the 9th Lamdo (chief) of Gashaka, in Taraba State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that 47-year-old Zubairu, a first class traditional ruler, succeeds his father, Dr. Muhammed Sambo, who ruled the 151-year-old chiefdom for 51 years, until his death last year.
In a speech after the coronation, the new chief promised to ensure equity, justice and peace for the people during his reign.
Sambo, a former spokesman of the Jalingo Specialist Hospital, urged the people to support constituted authorities so as to attract development to the area.
The new ruler also urged the people to support security agents by reporting any strange moment around them in order to sustain peace.
Sambo tasked his subjects to go back to the farm so as to feed their households, communities and the nation.
While thanking Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba and the people of Gashaka for finding him worthy to serve, Sambo called on government to provide electricity and other social amenities for his people.
Earlier, Gov. Ishaku, while presenting the staff of office to the chief, had urged him to always stand for justice and peace.
He charged Sambo to collaborate with other chiefs to check the influx of criminal herdsmen from neighboring countries into the state.
The governor described the late father of the new monarch, who reigned from 1965 to 2016, as a great leader, whose qualities should be emulated by all.
“I want you to join hands with other chiefs and security agents to check the mass influx of criminal herdsmen and other strangers from neighbouring countries into the state.
” You are coming on board when the state is passing through serious security challenges and must therefore remain consistently alert,” he said.
A large crowd that included former PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, traditional rulers from Nigeria and the Republic of Cameron, among others, witnessed the occasion.
