LAGOS – A journalist, Remi Aderibigbe, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, accused of the attempted murder of former local council Chairman, Dr Augustine Arogundade.
Aderibigbe, 50, who resides at Bada Akintan Street, Ayobo, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted murder of Arogundade, former chairman of Agbado /Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area.
The prosecutor, Insp Nurudeen Thomas, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 31 at No. 8, Arogundade St., Aboru area of Iyana Ipaja in Lagos.
He explained that the defendant and others still at large, unlawfully entered the home of Arogundade at 2 a.m. on the said date with the intent to murder him.
“The defendant and his accomplices entered the complainant’s home at about 2 a.m., armed with guns for the attack”, Thomas said.
He added that the offences contravened sections 228 (1) (2) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 228 stipulates life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of the offence.
However, Aderibigbe pleaded not guilty to the charges
The Magistrate, Mrs Abimbola Oshodi-Makanju, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to Dec. 29 for hearing. (NAN)
