Jubilation in Akwa Ibom over Udom’s election victory

UYO (Sundiata Post) – The atmosphere in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, on Monday, was that of jubilation as people took to the streets celebrating the victory of Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel at the just concluded gubernatorial election in the state.

Uyo Township Stadium was the take-off point where thousands trooped out enmass to dance in a colourful road show.

Udeme Adaka, an indigene of Ika residing in Uyo, who was one of those who spoke with our correspondent could not hide his excitement, “this is a victory march. Uyo is agog with jubilation, everyone is dancing. Everybody is happy. Udom is the best, I love Udom.”

The victory march anchored at Wellington Bassey Way was led by the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, and Governor-elect, Mr Emmanuel.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]

People clapped, cheered and chanted in solidarity to the ruling PDP under the Akpabio-led the victory team around some major roads amidst music performances by the Akwa Ibom Entertainers Movement led by Ini Ikpe Etukudo and Moses Amstrong who had charged the atmosphere with songs and dance.
People were seen dancing, jubilating and enjoying themselves around the state capital.
Addressing the excited crowd, Akpabio commended them for their commitment to the enthronement of sustainable development in the state.
Akpabio told them, “Your jubilation speaks volume because we wanted continuity in the state, some people talked about change but our change came since 2007.”
He recounted that the state had set an example in the country as the only state where non-indigenes enjoy free education and free medical care.
He said that by voting for Udom Emmanuel, the people have rejected an attempt to return the state to the days of potholes, poor infrastructure, and servitude.
On his part, Mr. Emmanuel noted that PDP was a way of life in Akwa Ibom State and that the people would always support the party, maintaining that only those against progress embraced propaganda.

He promised to sustain the development strides of the present administration and assured that he would create jobs opportunities, industries and take the state to the next level.
The state chairman of PDP, Mr. Paul Ekpo, was among those who spoke at the ceremony.
